European Portuguese: When to use verb TOMAR

What can you TOMAR in European Portuguese?

1- You can TOMAR a coffee, a juice, or any other drink.

If you want to be polite when someone is paying you a visit, you can ask: “Queres tomar alguma coisa?” Using this formula, the person can respond by saying for what he/she prefers at the moment.

2- You can TOMAR a shower or a bath.

3- You can TOMAR breakfast.

4- You can TOMAR medicines when you’re not feeling ok.

5- You can TOMAR notes , or anotar, when someone is speaking, for example.
