Beginner to Intermediate Level Short Stories

Portuguese Short Stories for Beginners and Intermediate Learners

This one is is a good choice if you believe the beginner's books would be to easy for you. Remember to always challenge yourself. If you feel that the book is too easy to comfortable, you need a better challenge.

Turma da Mônica Lendas para Crianças

Last time we mentioned specific folklore titles for you to read. This time we have a very simple but amazing book by Maurício de Souza. We this one, you can read a little bit of various tales.

Brazilian Literature

O meu pé de laranja lima by José Mauro de Vasconcelos

This one is a classic story that our children read when they are in primary school. It is at the perfect level for an Intermediate to Advanced level learner. I read it a few times in my teenage years, and I would read it again.

European Portuguese Short Stories

Contos com Nivel: Livro (A1) and Contos com Nivel: Livro (A2)

For those learning European Portuguese, I recommend these series which are presented in A1 e A2

Dom Casmurro by Machado de Assis

Now... if you are more advanced and need a better challenge, Dom Casmurro is the book for you. I read it in secondary school, again in university - I studied language and literature - and many more times after that. It is one of those books that will make you have a different perception every time you read it. I still have not decided whether Capitu is guilty or not.

This book has various editions, various covers, and it has been translated to quite a few languages. You can also read it in English here. Because one way or another.... you've got to read this book!

Contemporary Books

Depois que Te Encontrei

Looking for book that keeps you curious, intrigued? This story pinch of love and a pinch of mystery. You should definitely give it a try. I do not want to give too much away. I like spoilers but most people don't.
